How To Smell Beautiful!

Here are a few tips to help you get the most out of your favourite fragrance and to smell great ALL the time!

1) LEARN HOW TO APPLY PERFUME:

Don't just spray a dab of fragrance on your wrists and behind your ears and be done with it. The best spots to apply perfume are inside the elbows, down your back,behind the knees and near your belly button. These are areas where your veins run closer to the surface of the skin, which make these areas warmer and which also help the fragrance develop and dissipate.

Spritzing your hair is also a great idea because the strands of hair hold on to fragrance molecules. If you are concerned about your hair drying out thanks to the alcohol level in your favourite fragrance, then spray your hair brush and then run that through your hair!

 

 2) LAYER YOUR FRAGRANCES:

If you have a favourite fragrance chances are the manufacturer also has a body wash or a body lotion with the same fragrance. OR, if you favour green citrusy fragrances use a body wash or lotion that complements the same smell. This "layering" helps create a signature smell around you and makes your perfume last longer!

3) KEEP YOUR UNDERWEAR AND SOCK DRAWER FRAGRANT:

One easy tip is to tuck a little potpourri sachet in among your underwear and socks. A friend gave us this easy tip: just tuck a bar of your favourite soap under your clothes and your tidy whities stay fragrant and fresh all day long! 

4) KEEP YOUR HAIR SMELLING FRESH:

If spraying your regular fragrance onto your hair does not feel like something you wiah to do, look for fragrances developed specially for hair like this one from indulgent hair brand Hedonista.

5) WATCH WHAT YOU EAT AND DRINK:

If you eat overly spiced food and drink, chances are your body odour will be affected by this diet. While our local cuisine relies rather heavily on the use of spices and garlic, you can temper this by ensuring you drink adequate amounts of water and by balancing out your diet by eating fresh salads, yoghurt and fruit.

6) KEEP GOOD HYGIENE: 

Needless to say, good hygiene is essential. This is the starting point for smelling fresh. Using perfumes to MASK poor hygiene practices is not a good idea. Depending on the weather and the climate where you live, make sure to shower daily, if not twice a day. Try showering before your workout as well as after. You'll be surprised at how wide awake and ready for some calorie busting that can make you. Also, body odour in the gym is caused by sweat mingling with dirt and bacteria on your skin. A clean skin will not smell!
