4 Amazing DIY's With Coconut Oil!

Posted on December 10 2016

Here are 4 fabulous DIY’s using coconut oil for both skin and hair because why stress over the idea of breaking the bank for expensive conditioners and masks  when the cure has always been your kitchen cupboard!.

And before you think: ‘Isn’t it insane to use Coconut Oil on my already oily, acne-prone face?’, (although yes, when you use the coconut oil to treat acne, you’re fighting oil with oil) we have got a little logical tip for you:

Just like you need good fats to get rid of the fat around your middle, you need good oil to get rid of the bad oil (excess sebum in oily skin). Coconut oil expels the bad oil, toxins, dirt, grime, and blackheads from deep within your pores.

Extra virgin coconut oil has compounds that prevent acne bacteria from replicating, which is why when it works the results are so dramatic.

So, now you know! Cheers!

DIY's for SKIN

  1. Coconut Oil Face Mask-  with Honey and Lemon

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Here’s what you’ve got to do:

  • When choosing the right kind of coconut oil for your skin, always go for organic, unrefined, cold pressed, extra virgin oil as processed coconut oil contains other ingredients and additives that may cause allergic reactions.
  • Likewise for honey, use raw honey and not the processed one for best results.
  • After you’re done, combine all the ingredients thoroughly in a small mixing bowl.
  • Apply a thick coat of the mixture on to your cleansed face.
  • Allow the mixture to sink in for 10 minutes. Try not to speak or move your face during this time as you don’t want to disturb the mixture while it performs its magic!
  • When it’s time, apply a warm, damp wash cloth on your face. Wait a few seconds, then gently wipe the mask off. The warmth of the wash cloth will help you get rid of dirt as it opens your pores.
  • Follow up with a splash of cool water.
  • Pat dry with a soft towel.
  1. Coconut Oil Face Mask- with Banana and Turmeric

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 ripe banana
  • A pinch of turmeric

Here’s what you’ve got to do:

  1. Melt Coconut Oil. You can either use a hair dryer or simply place the coconut oil container in a bowl of hot water.
  2. Mash up 1/4 ripe banana using the back of a fork. Ripe or overripe bananas are easier to mash into a lump free paste.
  3. Stir in the coconut oil and turmeric to form a consistent mixture.
  4. Slather the mixture onto cleansed skin. Let it settle for 15 minutes.
  5. After you’re done, take a wet cotton pad to clean your face. This technique is really good for oily skin. In case of dry skin, you can skip this step if you want and just rinse off with cool water.

DIY's for HAIR

  1. Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp Honey (And if you could get your hands on organic raw honey, it would be awesome!)
  • 4 tbsp Organic Coconut Oil

Here’s what you’ve got to do:

  • Pour honey and coconut oil in a pan and heat it on a stove top until well mixed. Long or extra damaged hair? Just add a bit more of these ingredients.
  • Allow the mixture to cool and then apply on the dry hair, split ends and scalp. The mask can be applied to dry or wet hair, although it's easier applied to wet hair. Have a towel around your neck to protect your clothes and section your hair off. Apply generously from top to bottom, focusing on the ends where most damage occurs.
  • Wrap your hair in a bun, cover with a shower cap and let the mask soak in for 30-40 minutes. While you wait for the mask to do its magic, flip through a magazine, read a book, or paint your nails to pamper yourself some more.
  • Wash the mask out in the shower using your regular shampoo and conditioner routine and voila! Soft, smooth, healthy hair!
  1. Coconut Oil Hair Conditioner

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon vitamin E oil
  • 1 tablespoon Jojoba oil
  • 10 drops of your favorite essential oil (preferably Rosemary Essential Oil)

Here’s what you’ve got to do:

  • Pour all ingredients in a bowl and whisk to mix. This may take several minutes as you want a smooth and creamy conditioner.
  • In the shower, after washing your hair, use a teaspoon or two of the mixture and apply generously through hair.
  • If you have got oily hair, just apply this conditioner at mid length to the tips of your hair avoiding the scalp area.
  • Allow it to penetrate hair for the remainder of your shower, and rinse very well.
