What are we reviewing?
This week, the Beauty Squad is reviewing a really interesting product, the Innisfree Long Wear Cushion. Cushion compacts first originated in Korea (as did BB Creams!) and are touted to be the next big thing in the beauty industry. We couldn't wait to let you guys know what we think about it!
How much does it cost?
The Innisfree Long Wear Cushion costs Rs 1700 and is available at all Innisfree stores (Khan Market, DLF Promenade & Galleria Market)
Introduction to product or product category:
Innisfree is one of our favourite naturalism-oriented cosmetic brands. It is no secret how much we love their products! Kat first got introduced to the Innisfree Long Wear Cushion when a Korean friend gifted her one. Since she had heard so much about them, she was absolutely thrilled to lay her hands on it. It didn't take long for her to recommend it to the rest of the MSM Beauty Squad so here we are, reviewing it for you!
How it works:
The Innisfree Long Wear Cushion is available in India in three shades namely No. 13 (light beige), No. 21 (natural beige) and No. 23 (true beige). It comes in the usual BB cushion-style of compact, with a flip-open lid that serves as both an airtight lid as well as a puff holder.
Korean Beauty Expert, Alicia Yoon, explains the technology behind this product “Like many foundations, the product in the cushion compact is made of a mixture of oil and water, which love to separate. So many foundations have an inconsistent application because the product is a little bit different each time it comes out of the bottle” (which explains so much, now that we think about it). And that’s where cushion compacts come in. “The sponge that eventually won out over the rest has over 80,000 little sponge cells where the product is placed,” Yoon explains. “The sponge cells make sure that oil and water separation happens only within that microscopic cell unit, ultimately ensuring that every dab (which picks up many, many of these cell units) come out consistently, since each cell unit of goop stays intact with no further oil and water separation.” Crazy!
It also contains a foam like applicator, which looks quite unassuming, but when we did a little bit of research around it, it proved to be quite technologically advanced. The applicator is made of a specialised material that holds up to nine times its weight in water and is densely woven for fine application. It is also anti microbial.
(P.S. Innisfree also has a Water Glow Cushion that is said to give a dewy finish. If you'd like the squad to review that as well, leave a comment below and we'll get right to it!)
And What does the Product Claim?
The Innisfree Long Wear Cushion contains SPF 50 (big big big plus) and PA+++
Also, Innisfree claims that the long-wear cushion is formulated to keep the skin looking bright and smooth all day while staying strong against sweat and sebum. It claims to leave the skin feeling smooth , refreshed and soft with an even skin tone that calms pores and bumps. It also claims to control sebum which then keeps the face looking brighter for longer without looking dark or dull.
What we thought:
Overall, the squad had differing views on the Innisfree Long Wear Cushion. Read on to know what each one of us had to say.
- Diva (Oily Skin) Innisfree Long Wear Cushion shade No. 23: First things first, this product is so easy to apply. No mess on your hands, no uneven coverage. It has an instant cooling effect on your face. Make sure you do little taps instead of rubbing it in. It has a fairly good coverage and doesn't really need a base. You can apply it right on top of your moisturiser or sunscreen without needing to apply any liquid foundation before it. It has a matte finish - however if you have super oily skin like mine you could dust a little mineral powder on it for extra defence against oily skin. It stayed put for a good 8-10 hours while feeling lightweight on your skin the entire time.
- Kat (Dry Skin) Innisfree Long Wear Cushion Shade No. 21: The packaging and presentation is deceptively simple. The air puff picks up a small amount of product but as you pat it on, you discover that a little bit goes a long way.The first coat goes on very sheer for a light weight natural look, but can be built upon with successive applications.
Shaz (Combination Skin) Innisfree Long Wear Cushion Shade No. 21: I was completely intrigued by the new cushion technology when Diva and Kat gifted it to me and I couldn't wait to try it. The fact that it contains SPF 50 is a big plus! However, I'm just a wee bit undecided on how I feel about this one. I like that it has a matte finish and feels really lightweight on my skin but I didn't think of it to be doing a lot more for my face than my regular foundation does. I do blot my face a few times during the day (damn this heat) so it did kind of wear off around my T zone. If you're contemplating a new foundation, definitely give this a try. For me, it made for a good rebound story with a smarter, stress-free newbie ;) However, if you're happy with your current one, I don't think this will make you want to switch. #relationshipgoals
