Acquaint yourself with who we are and then read on to know what each one of us has to say about the pick of the week- Clarins UV Plus Anti-Pollution (SPF 50) Sunscreen.
What are we reviewing?
This week, the Beauty Squad is reviewing a skin care essential, the Clarins UV Plus Anti Pollution (SPF 50) Sunscreen.
Note how we say skin care essential and not summer essential.
Contrary to common perception, sunscreen is a must all year round! Yes, even on those over-cast days!
The Clarins Sunscreen is available in three variations: Transclucent, Fairness and Rosy Glow. The Transclucent sunscreen appears white in colour, the Fairness has a blue tint to it and the Rosy Glow has a peachy-pink tint. Please speak to a Clarins beauty advisor to understand which one is best for your needs.
How much does it cost? The Clarins sunscreen 30ml bottle is priced at Rs 2750.
Intro to product or product category:
Clarins is a French luxury cosmetics company, founded in 1954. The MSM Beauty Squad became aware of the new sunscreen through a marketing initiative Clarins India did in the form of a pop-up shop in a mall in New Delhi. Since Clarins is known to be a trustworthy and highly reputable brand, we didn't hesitate to step in and buy some products.
How does it work - what is the product claim?
Formulated with Clarins' exclusive Anti-Pollution Complex, the sunscreen is a lightweight, oil-free day screen which aims to shield the skin from UVA/UVB rays, pollution, and free radical damage.
Clarins claims that it forms an invisible shield that protects skin from the appearance of dark spots and future ageing.
What we thought:
Overall, the Clarins sunscreen proved to be a good choice for the entire beauty Squad.
The sunscreen spreads evenly, has a mattifying effect, and does not feel cakey or heavy on any of the skin types. It also serves as a good base for make up since it mattifies the face and allows even make up application.
- Diva (Oily Skin): I thought the Clarins sunscreen spread quite easily and evenly on my face. It did feel a little sticky on my inherently oily face for the first couple of minutes after application. However, as it settled it did not make my face shine or feel sticky.
- Kat (Dry Skin): To start off, make sure you guys shake the bottle prior to application to ensure proper emulsification and the right texture. It does spread eaily and the texture is good. It felt a wee bit oily with some shine right after I applied it, but it mattified within a few seconds and looked quite natural. Also at first application it feels like there is a white cast on my skin, but that too settled down and my skin looked like its normal tone agin. It stays put all day however I must add that I haven't tested it in hot sweaty conditions - such as an outdoor workout - with sweat pouring down my face! As far as make up application over the sunscreen goes, I applied the Clarins UV Plus over my normal moisturiser, and then used my medium coverage Clinique compact makeup with spf 15. Make up went on smoothly.
- Shaz (Combination Skin): My experience with the Clarins Sunscreen has been nothing short of amazing. Having avidly avoided sunscreen for the better part of my years (massive mistake, btw), I have absolutely no qualms about applying the Clarins Sunscreen everyday, or even a few times a day! It spreads very easily without making me feel like I'm carrying greasy heavy weights on my face, stays put throughout the day and works as a perfect base for make up. It also has a lovely subtle fresh scent. It mattified my oily T-zone and brought out the natural colour of my skin like never before. A big thumbs up from me!
