DIY Fruit Beauty Hacks You Absolutely Need to Try This Summer!

Posted on May 25 2015

We've grown up scowling at the portions of fruit in our lunch boxes all through school but little did we know we'd grow to love them so much.

These blessings of nature, work towards making us beautiful both inside and out.

Read all about our top six super fruit picks and their DIY beauty hacks!

We don't even know where to begin with this one!

Papaya has a zillion benefits for beautiful, healthy skin.

This fruit is available all year round in India and we still can't get enough of it!

It's a great source of vitamin A, vitamin C and Papain ( which helps in removing dead skin) plus its low sodium levels help manage water retention which in turn means it helps to keeps your skin hydrated.

DIY beauty hack: Mash a raw papaya and mix about half a teaspoon of raw pineapple juice. Apply liberally to your face and neck and lie down for 15-20 minutes. Wash off for no more pores, even, bright skin!

Yep, you're probably wondering why tomatoes are on our super fruit list.

Believe it or not, tomato is actually a fruit. We know, right? Mind blown.

Anyway, coming back to the point quickly, tomatoes contain something called lycopene which apparently helps in cooling down your skin and tan removal. So needed this summer!

DIY beauty hack: Chop tomatoes (without the raw top and centre) and mix with lots of sugar and one- two teaspoon of coconut oil to make yourself an amazing body scrub for all those summer days. You can even store this in your fridge for a few days! Make sure you label it though :-)

Bananas are an amazing source of vitamins A,B and C, natural oils, carbohydrates as well as potassium. (Who knew all the stuff you ran away from in science class was actually good for you?)

What this means is that bananas are great for healthy skin and hair!

DIY beauty hack: For super nourished, shiny, bouncy hair, mash a ripe banana with one tablespoon of honey. Mix this in the blender until the banana is super super smooth (Trust us, let the blender do its job for a while - this hair mask is going to be a pain to take off unless your banana is completely pureed) Apply generously to your hair, focusing specially on the ends. Tie up your hair and wear a shower cap over it for half an hour. Double shampoo to remove.

Like we've said before lemons are great for skin, hair and overall health and wellbeing.

Aah! Cucumber, our favourite summer romance.

Using them to reduce puffy eyes and dark circles is something we've been seeing since time immemorial (secret tip: use grated cucumber instead of slices for even better results) but our favourite summer beauty hack is something else. Read on to know.

DIY beauty hack: Make your very own cooling spray this summer at home! Blend two cucumbers in the mixer and squeeze the pulp through a seive to get the juice out. Add rose water and fresh lemon juice to the mix. Pour into a small spray bottle (easily available at your local chemist store) and keep it in your bag. It's the perfect pick me up in summer!

These sweet little pink beads are the most anti-oxidant rich fruit! They have anti-aging properties and rejuvenate your skin like none other. This May, MSM Express gives you the goodness of poms in our W2 facepack. Order your box before the 25th of May to try this special product.

DIY beauty hack: Whenever we're in a rush, toning is the first thing we skip out on in our beauty routine. However, ever since we've learnt to make our own toner, we haven't skipped a day.

Here's how you can make some for yourself too: Get 1/8th cup pure pomegranate juice and mix it with 1/4th cup green tea and 1/8th cup filtered water. Cool this in the refrigerator for a few hours and use twice a day.

A (DIY) apple mask a day will keep ALL your troubles away!

Apples are a rich source of malic acid known to boost immunity and overall healthy skin.

Apple cider vinegar is fermented juice from crushed apples (known as “seb ka sirka” in India) and is a rich source of vitamins and nutrients. A regular in most beauty DIYs this product works really well with mostly anything.

DIY beauty hack: Our last DIY beauty trick is an apple cider vinegar at home skin peel.

This easy to make peel works wonders to even out your complexion, specially if you have age spots or sun damage.

Peel an apple and take the seeds out. Cut it into half and then small pieces. (Eat the other half :p) Put the cut pieces in your blender.

(Do not add water if you can avoid it since it's only going to make this mask more mushy. If you absolutely must, add a teaspoon at max.)

Add 1 teaspoon of organic, raw, apple cider vinegar and mix well. Apply on your face and neck for 15-20 minutes before washing off. This mask does not keep well, so we'd recommend you to make some just before applying.

And there you have it, all of the benefits from fruits right where you can see it!

We're running over to the grocers to grab our share of fruits for the week.

What about you? What DIY beauty hack can you not wait to try?
